Mellow Week

So this past week has been somewhat relaxing.  It was the first week of graduate school so I definitely needed it to be relaxing.  Aspen and Colten had a sleepover on Sunday night at Darcee's and Jay's.  So Monday was nice and quiet around the house so I could do a lot of reading.  Darcee and Jay came over on Monday.  Jay was going to hang up some pictures and other things in the house and do it right :-)  Alijah and Jeramiah spent the night at our house on Monday night.  I guess that is what summers are for, lots of sleep overs.  I am really grateful the kids get along so well.

Mostly this past week has been filled with lots of reading for me, karate for Colt, gymnastics for Aspen, swimming for both of them and then relaxing at the house.  But I am learning to cherish all of it.  I don't always get in the pool with the kids but when I do, I make sure to actually play with them.  We went to Jumpin' Jacks yesterday and Aspen asked if I would jump this time so I did.  It was definitely hard trying to keep up with them and took lots of rest times but it was fun to play with them.

David went and pick up the rest of his kids yesterday so we are back to a full house and I am sure plenty of excitement.

Visit with the Hight's

Well we have had quite the busy week.  After Aspen's party, Aspen and Colt went north with their dad to see the Thunderbirds at Hill Air Force Air Show and celebrate Aspen's birthday with his family.  David's kids except for Celise all went to their mom's for the weekend.  So we had a nice quiet weekend.  We were able to clean out the garage so that we could park both cars in it.  I am very excited about that especially with the hot months coming up.  Sunday Celise and I went to my parents house for dinner and to play games.  David had a lot of work to do before he left for a week.

On Monday, David was heading to Provo for a meeting so he took Baylee and the twins up there and dropped them off to his mom.  So that left Celise, Austin and I at home.  We went to the rec center to workout and then we went to go see Captain America: Winter Soldier.  Then we spent the evening packing up to leave in the morning.  David picked up my kids on his way home.  On Tuesday, we hurried and finished last minute packing since we had to be in Cedar by 10:45 for eye appointments.  I wasn't impressed with the eye doctor down in St. George so I took the kids back up to Cedar to my favorite eye doctor ever.  Colt has been without his glasses for over two months so I am glad we were finally able to get him in and get some glasses ordered.  We were actually able to get him two frames because we have duel insurance til the end of July.  Aspen also earned the privilege of getting glasses.  She is pretty excited about it too.  She also got two different pairs of glasses.  And I got bumped up another notch on the blind radar.  Gotta love having horrible eye sight.  Thanks Dad ;)

After our eye appointments, we headed to Midway.  It was a hot ride due to not having any AC but we survived.  David's sister Emily was visiting from North Carolina.  I finally got to meet her cute family.  She cooked us up a Southern meal called shrimp boil.  It had shrimp, sausage and potatoes in it.  But the best part is that we ate off the table, no plates.  You just take however much you would like and if you want more than just get some more.  It was really fun.

On Wednesday, we took the boat out for a couple of hours.  The kids had a blast.  Aspen was knocked off the tube for the first time.  She did not like the water up the nose feeling.  But she did get back on the tube for awhile.  Baylee also got knocked off or she bailed off.  Then David and I also got knocked off and from what I am told caught some pretty serious air.  My face only hurt for a little bit and I only have a tiny bruise to show for it.  All in all I would say it was a pretty successful boating trip.  I just wish we could do more.

Thursday we got up really early due to Celise having an appointment at 8am in Salt Lake.  So we drove down to David's brother's house and spent the next day and a half with them.  We had a little mini Star Wars marathon in which we just watch episodes 4, 5, and 6.   We also did s'mores in their fire pit and the kids played a game of soccer.  It was fun to be able to just relax and enjoy the company.

Friday we spent a good portion of the day with Mike and Kristina.  Then after we picked up some fireworks we headed back up to Midway.  Four of David's seven siblings and kids were there so it was pretty noisy.  We had Emily's pulled pork that night for dinner which was delicious.  When it got dark we headed out to do some fireworks and to watch Midway's firework show.  We probably only made it a fourth through our fireworks because on of the aerial's tipped over and started shooting to the side.  Well besides being concerned about all the kids, we then had to look at where the fireworks landed.  And it happened that one of them landed in a dry field and started a fire and the wind then carried it to more than just a little fire.  Some of the men ran over to start trying to stomp it out and then we got some shovels.  They were able to put it out pretty quickly but definitely scarred a few of us.  Good thing we had a few men who had played with fire in their younger years and knew how to quickly put out the flames.  After we got the fire out it started to rain lightly so we just called it a night.  Most of the grandkids stayed at G & G's  house in tents outside except for the younger girls who slept upstairs in a tent.

Austin, Baylee, Alyssa and Alanah were going to stay up north for another week so on Saturday the rest of us got up and got our stuff packed.  Then we headed down the canyon to go have one last lunch with Emily's family.  The kids had fun playing at the park and in the river.  After lunch, we headed home.  The trip home wasn't too terrible because most of the way was cloud covered or raining.  It didn't get hot until we got past Cedar and down the ridge.  Once home we somewhat unpacked and just relaxed for the evening.  We had a great trip but are glad to be home.
