Spring time = busy time

Yay....two weeks in a row :)  Just a little proud of myself.  A little recap of the weeks events and a few pictures.

The kids returned home bright and early Monday morning.  They were a little tired but had fun at their dads.  The week was pretty much going to be normal except we are now adding in soccer again.  Luckily both the kids have practice on the same day unfortunately at different times.  But it is not interfering with their other activities so it is good.

Friday was a normal early out day but I had to do a video for work...one which Colt was super excited to help me do.  I had to do a video for my students to watch before they take the SAGE end of year test.  So Colt got to tackle me (I was pretending to be the math test and he was crushing me).  Aspen was the photographer.  They both seemed to enjoy it.  After I finished making the video we headed to the park.  Kids weren't too excited to walk but once we got to the park they were fine.  St George is having such nice weather I won't allow the kids to stay hidden indoors all day anymore.  They don't like that at all.

Saturday was their first soccers games.  Unfortunately, they were at the same time :(  Luckily Hollee came to Aspen's and David went to Colten's and I was able to split time between them both.  Aspen has come a long way since she started playing and she has a really good coach this season.  And most importantly she still enjoys playing so that is what matters.  Her team, unofficially because we don't keep track of the score, won 6-1.  Colten, like usual, is doing awesome.  I was able to get his one goal on video.  Lucky, I know.  David told me that he laid out to block the ball from going in for a goal.  He was super excited about that.  After their games they did their normal Saturday chores but Colt wanted to add one...weeds.  Aspen wasn't excited about that.  But they got them all done.  I had to force them outside and monitor their indoor time.  I understand my mom's struggle to get me out of the house.  Colten eventually went over to Darcee's house for a sleep over with Jeraimah and Alijah and Kayleeya came to sleep over at mine.

Sunday brought an early morning for the weekend.  But it was the temple dedication of the Provo City Center temple.  Aspen was able to go although she didn't understand (pay attention to) most of it.  We got to the stake center at 8:30, like instructed.  At 8:42, our stake president got up and said they were having technical difficulties with the receiver to broadcast the dedication.  He gave us instructions to go to the nearest stake center or try attending the later sessions. We were able to get into another stake center but it was on the stage.  It was a very good ceremony and I am glad that Aspen was able to attend.

We will be having dinner over at Paula's tonight for a fireside with Uncle Mike.  He is doing a presentation of Porter Rockwell.  So looking forward to that.

Mom travel for work = time at the grandparents

So I had to go up to Salt Lake at the beginning of March for the face to face professional development and outing to the Capitol building.  It was a pretty fun trip.  PD this time around was really good.  And it was fun to meet some of my students, both high school and from 7th grade.  I was glad when I got to come home though.

The kiddos were at grandma's while I was away.  But as I was driving up north I got a call from my mom saying that the kids weren't were they were supposed to be...freaking out.  I told her to go check the bus stop and then go to the house.  No luck.  I finally got a text from a mom of Aspen's friend saying that the kids were at her house and they forgot they weren't supposed to ride the bus home.  I calmed down at that point and after directions my mom found the kids.  I am so grateful that my mom is able to help me out.  She got Aspen to her piano lessons and let her do the Girls on the run activity on Thursday.  Colt...she just put up with him and his no tablet mindset.  I don't know what I would do without her.  I heard that on Friday she took them up to the Dixie rock to meet up with Paula, Jayden, Gabby and Nicholas.  The kids had so much fun.

I went to go get them on Saturday morning.  My mom had taken them to the Home Depot activity.  They were building a little toy wagon.  They were not excited to come home.  But they finally finished their projects and reluctantly came home with me.  They got their chores done, played outside and watched some movies.  Sunday morning they left with their dad for the next week (spring break) :(  So yeah, got to see them for one day in about 12 days.  Little rough but since I wasn't on Spring Break, work was a good distractor.

Soccer is starting up this next week so lots of practices and games for the next 6 weeks.  Hopefully I will be able to stay on top of the blog and not have to play catch up.

So Aspen was begging to make a dessert on that Saturday.  Since I didn't have a whole lot of ingredients to make from scratch...we did brownies from a box.  She pretty much did it all herself.  I only helped with the stirring.  The brownies were delicious :)

While Aspen was busy making brownies, Colt was busy bugging me about a game he wants to buy for his tablet "5 nights at Freddy's".  I knew that he had some money stashed away (tooth fairy and spare change).  So I said let's count out how much you have.  He had $2.38.  The game cost $2.99.  I told him that if he could figure out how much money he still needed, I would give him that money.  So he did (I only gave him a hint to write it out).  And he totally figured out that he needed $0.61.  Such a mean mom huh? :)  Guess that is the downside of having a math teacher as a mom :)

Aspen Science Fair Project

So I am slowly learning that if the school sends something home about ANYTHING the kids are going to want to do it and think it is a requirement.  Exhibit A - the science fair.  Both kids brought home information about it.  I didn't want to do (hate science), their dad couldn't do it but Aspen asked David if he would help her and he said yes.

I helped her find an idea and then just made sure that she had everything she needed.  David oversaw what she was writing up on the project.  She was testing to see which food molded the fastest.  She didn't like the results of the milk...haha but she was super excited when she got a ribbon (participation) and a certificate.  Super proud of her hard work (with a lot of prodding from me) to finish the project.  Don't know that we will be participating next year...haha

Colt - tooth number 2 comes out

So towards the end of February Colt told me he had a loose tooth.  I told him to keep wiggling it and then I would work on it.  February 28th he showed me and I said "you know, we could work on it tomorrow and then you would loose you tooth on leap day"  He was super excited about that.  He lost his first tooth on February 1st so he wanted to loose his second one on February 29th.  He was a trooper.  I had to work a little tougher on this tooth.  But he hung in there and let me work on it without complaining too much.  He was super excited when I got it out.  He wanted to go wake up his sister but I told him "no, you can show her in the morning".  He said "I hope the tooth fairy comes tonight and not wait".  I just shook my head :(  He loves that he has a gap in his bottom teeth.  His other tooth has quite come all the way in yet so he likes putting his tongue through the gap.

President's Day/Valentine's Day

And I am sitting here trying to remember what we did for President's Day :(  Good thing for technology so I go back and jog my horrible memory.

So on Saturday Aspen and Colten got to spend the day at their dad's which pretty much means I didn't do much.  Except for Mike and Kristina were down for soccer tournaments.  So David, Austin and I went to watch Ben play goalie in his soccer game.  Of course, Ben's team won and it was fun to visit with Mike and Kristina.

Sunday was Valentine's Day.  Aspen and Colt came back that morning.  David got the kids a nice treat for Valentine's Day.  He got me a box of chocolates and hot cocoa.  I got him pictures of the family to take in to his work.  Mike's family came over later that night to visit.  Aspen had a lot of fun playing with Charlotte and Lydia.  I think even Colt had fun playing with them.

So Monday was a day off of school for everyone.  We went to watch Ben's final soccer game.  The championship game came down to penalty kicks and Ben did awesome at stopping them.  It was interesting to watch the full game of soccer played on the competitive level.  I am just used to little fields and 8 kids out there playing.  Guess I got a glimpse of my future...well hopefully.  Colt is broadening his horizon with sports.  We are going to have him try baseball this spring and then he wants to do football next fall.  Yikes...we'll see how that goes.

Life resumed as usual on Tuesday.  Thursday Colt woke up with a fever.  So he ended up missing Thursday and Friday of school.  It turned out that it was the end of the trimester and he would have had perfect attendance if he would have been in school.  But I played it safe and let him stay home.  But he wasn't too happy when I wouldn't play on his tablet.  I told him that if he doesn't feel well enough to go to school he is not well enough to play electronics.  So his options were sleep or watch movies.

I felt bad because that Friday my school had an outing at the Sand Hollow Aquatic Center and since he was sick he couldn't go.   So I took Aspen and went a visited with my southern colleagues.  Aspen had a lot of fun swimming and met a few kids to play with.

Aspen had a birthday party the next night.  Her friend Alex from school (he has since moved to a different school but we still try to get them together) had his birthday party at Laser Mania.  Colt really wanted to stay but I told him he couldn't.  So David and I took him to Fiesta Fun to the batting cages.  Colt did pretty good.  He hit a couple of the balls but most were strike outs.  But he seemed to enjoy it.
