School, dance, gymnastics, karate, soccer .....

Man the list seems to grow every time I think of the things that the kids are involved in. Well since I have been pretty busy learning about how to teach online and everything involved in that, I haven't had much time for anything else. I had two more weeks of my masters class that I wanted to finished so those two weeks were crazy. But I got done with the course with a final grade of A-  I am happy with my final grade and while I wish that I could continue, I am going to take a break while figuring out my job.

Aspen and Colt went with their dad one last time at the beginning of August. They went up to Salt Lake. While I don't know much of what happened, I think they had a good time. School started the following Monday. Aspen was excited to start her new school and meet new friends. I asked her if she made any friends and she said yes, and then told me it was a girl. I was shocked because the past two years she has made male friends so I was excited. Then come to find out in her conference last week, there are two boys that really like her and want to be her boyfriend. Really?!?!?  Aspen is doing really well in school. She didn't exactly love the homework starting. And this is the first year he has really struggled with some of the spelling words. I think her teacher pushed this past week and she didn't want to do it. But she pushed through and is pretty certain she got a 100% on her spelling test. She is still enjoying dance and gymnastics and is excited to add soccer. What was I thinking?

Colten had to wait a week to start kindergarten. Mrs. Seely, his teacher, did a treasure hunt to introduce the classroom to her students. Colt loved it. He wore his little pirate hat all day. He is loving school. He is not a fan of homework but he does a pretty good job of working on it when I tell him too.  He is in heaven during the morning. Because I have to teach he pretty much gets to play the wii all morning. Every once in awhile, he will watch a movie. Lately, he has been obsessed with Star Wars.  He has watched all of the movies and that is the game he plays on the wii.  He is also enrolled in soccer and super excited to be playing again. KICKS said that no one volunteered to be the coach so I ended up signing up for it.  Luckily there are parents willing to help  Colt is still doing karate and doing well with it.  I think has helped him focus better and I have been trying to practice it a little more at home.

Labor Day weekend, David and I took Aspen and Colt to California for the weekend.  It was kind of an impromptu trip but we had a blast.  We headed down to Vegas on Friday night and just crashed there for the night.  Saturday we headed to Los Angeles.  We borrowed Hollee's car and needed to get the oil changed.  We ended up stopping just past Victorville for about 2 hours.  We finally got to LA, found a hotel and then headed out to an Angels game.  I think the kids had fun.  Aspen loved chanting with the crowd and seeing the plays on the big screen.  The Angels won 2-0 so that was good.

Sunday we headed to California Adventures.  I had never been there so I was excited to see what there was to do in this park.  Luckily, it didn't seem to be too crowded.  We started off going on the Soaring California ride and that was pretty cool.  Then we went on the Grizzly water ride.  My kids absolutely loved it.  They loved getting wet and seeing who would get wet.  I believe we headed over to the California Screamin' roller coaster next.  Unfortunately, neither of the kids were tall enough to ride it.  Aspen was just a sliver too short.  So instead we went to the roller coaster ride that they could ride, Goofy's Sky Coast.  This is pretty much like the Mouse Trap ride at Lagoon and just as scary. You feel like you are going to get flung off over and over.  The kids loved it so much that I think we rode it two more times, short line :).  We then rode a few of the little kid rides before heading over to The Little Mermaid.  This one was nice because it was indoors and air conditioned.  We rode this one twice as well, nice break.  The kids and I headed over to Cars Land to ride a few rides while David went to get fast passes.  We rode Mater's Tractors and Luigi's Tires, not sure of the real names but these are close enough.  Once we reunited with David, our fast passes for the racing ride was ready to use.  I have to say, that was one of my favorites.  I am totally grateful for the fast passes though.  We waited in line maybe about 15 minutes and the line was over an hour wait.  What a waste of time.  Anyway, Colt and Aspen loved it.  So as soon as we could went and got fast passes again to ride it later that evening.  Oh yeah, sometime in the morning we rode the Tower of Terror.  I love that ride.  Colt's face during the drops was hilarious.  Aspen just snuggled up next to me.  The first picture from Disney you couldn't even see Aspen, partly due to the person in front.  David teased her that she disappeared during the ride like the people from the ride.  About 2, we decided to take a break and go eat lunch and get checked into our hotel.  It was nice to be in an air conditioned building and drink water.  After our break, we headed back to the park and hit some of our favorite rides.  We had ridden the wet ride twice already so we vetoed the kids on going on that again.  But we rode Soaring, tractor, racing and then I had the kids go to the Bugs Life area and ride all those little rides.  We also rode Tower of Terror two more times,  All in all I would say we had a successful day at the park and now my kids can say that they have been to Disneyland.  After we left the park, we headed over to Huntington Beach.  David thought that beach stayed open later but that wasn't the case.  Well Colt was so worn out that he wouldn't even wake up.  I had to carry him while we walked on the pier.  It was kind of cold so we didn't stay long.

On Monday, we pretty much packed up and headed home.  Aspen and Colt did really well in the car and we had minimal fighting.  Later that night, Aspen and I went to Tuacahn to see The Little Mermaid with Darcee and Kayleeya.  Aspen really enjoyed it and I thought it was better than the one they had done a couple of years ago.  All in all, it was a fun weekend.  I think the kids had a good time and look forward to another great adventure.
