First week of October

This week has been more calm than previous weeks. Monday evening the Broncos were playing.  My friend, Ed, came over and made a yummy chicken dinner before the game.  The we watched the game - sad performance by the Broncos.  They had a 10 point lead against the Chiefs going into the 4th quarter and they squandered it.  This season is not looking good.

Tuesday, Colten had his first experience of getting a cavity filled.  So he skipped football practice because his mouth was still a little numb.  He did really well...he was nervous going into it but he just sat back and watched a movie.   This week is his bye week in football so the coach didn't have practice on Thursday.

Thursday, Aspen had her art class again.  She is working on a Halloween painting that she has to put a few finishing touches on.  It is looking pretty good.  She seems to really enjoy those classes and her teacher is great.  I can tell she is learning some new things every time she goes.

Friday night, I headed over to the Dixie Center to help with the marathon pasta dinner.  My parents are the captains over the volunteers and needed a few more people.  It was my first time and pretty fun.  Got to talk to a few people that were running and it is interesting to hear where they are from.

It is General Conference weekend and it is the first time that I have been able to watch the Saturday session.  We didn't have any kids sports/activities.  The kids watched the first session with me, Colten got a little disruptive towards the end.  Aspen headed off to a birthday party for Audra during the break.  I picked up some Sweet Tooth Fairy cupcakes for the kids hoping that would help motivate them to watch.

Conference was really good - a lot of talk on ministering to others and serving God.  On Sunday, President Nelson announced that a temple would be built in Washington County!!  What?!?!?! That is crazy.  He also said that some of the pioneer temples would be updated, naming Salt Lake to start.  Oh and the other big announcement was that they are changing the Sunday schedule and helping the families do more teaching in the home.  So instead of going to church for 3 hours, time is being cut down to 2 hours starting in January 2019.  Dont know how I fill about it lol....a lot more pressure on parents in the house.  I need to step up my game, that is for sure.

The kids and I headed over to Grandma and Grandpa's house Sunday morning.  Aspen and I made hoot-a-nanny pancakes (german pancakes).  They turned out way better this time around.  Darcee and her kids joined us for the afternoon session and dinner.  Grandpa Chris also joined us for dinner.  It was a great day.  Loved everything about it.  Sad that the weekend is over but going to conquer the week just the same.

Fall Break for kids = time off for me too :)

Well this week has been full of fun.  Last weekend was General Conference and President Nelson invited the women at the women's session to go on a social media fast for 10 days along with read the Book of Mormon by the end of the year.  I asked some of the girls in the family to join me in the Book of Mormon quest and had a few that are on board.  I have been off of Facebook since last Saturday night.  So hopefully I can remember all the events from the week.  Glad to be typing it up this week and not next week.

Monday we started off the week with a trip to Fiesta Fun.  My parents and I received some coupons for volunteering at the marathon the previous weekend. My parents were volunteering up at Tuacahn so they gave their coupons to me to go with kids.  We got to go bowling, Aspen kicked trash.  In my defense, both kids had bumpers and I didn't.  I also don't bowl so well.  Darcee and her kids showed up about halfway through our game so that was fun.  After we finished our bowling game, we (or I should say the kids) wanted to do the free game of mini golf.  We had about 10 minutes until we needed to leave so the kids did speed golf.  Just get the ball into the hole any way possible.  We skipped a few holes and ran ahead of a few groups but they were really nice about it.  The kids had fun with the speed golf.  After Fiesta Fun, we headed over to Family Home Evening with the Mid-Single adult ward.  They were doing a chili cook off.  Aspen enjoys chili so I decided to bring the kids.  There was another little boy there as well.  There was also a trampoline at the house so the kids had lots of fun and said they wanted to go to more FHE's.

Tuesday and Wednesday were our typical days except for Wednesday the kids stayed up watching some movies to celebrate no school the following day.  Thursday we went to visit Great Grandpa who invited us to lunch with him.  We went to Bishop's.  We all had breakfast food and the kids loved it.  After chatting with Grandpa for a while, we took him home and then we went to run a few errands.  Tonya, a manager from Tuacahn and her husband is in the bishopric in the mid-singles adults, said that she had gotten a bunch of apples from her in-laws.  I told her Colten loved apples and she said to come get some.  Colten got like 40-50 apples and she just laughed as he kept piling apples into the box.  Thursday night I dropped the kids off at Darcee's house while I went to the temple with the singles ward.  The kids had fun and I got to socialize a little.

Friday I had it all mapped out in my head and it totally did not play out that way...good thing I have learned in the past year that it is alright to rearrange and just go with the flow.  The original plan was to go hiking with my mom, Darcee's kids, Paula and her grandkids.  However, I got a text from my friend Ed saying that he was stranded a gas station with a flat tire and no jack.  Well I didn't think it would take that long to help him out but it ended up taking a lot longer than I had planned.  My mom was nice and picked up my kids and took them up to the hike.  Then I joined them after Ed had another friend come who has way more knowledge and connections to help him with his tire.  I headed up to the hike that I had never done before.  I learned two important lessons.  1 - hiking by yourself when you don't know the trail is not a good idea and 2 - listening to a podcast and solely looking down is not a good idea.  Luckily there was cell service and I was able to at least communicate with my mom.  I also think that Heavenly Father was looking after me.  I had gone too far and was walking around on some rocks.  Luckily there were some people who were coming down and making noise so I was able to get on the right trail.  The kids had fun walking down the Cinder cone and playing around.  The hike up to the actual cinder cone was steep and slippery.  I didn't bring my hiking boots either :(  I was my mom's brace to get down.  We did pretty good until the very end and some people were coming down as well.  A lady had said "says the lady who hasn't fallen" and bam - my mom slipped.  She was alright and we continued on our way.

I took the kids to the St. George rec center (another free item thanks to marathon coupon) after the hike.  My mom was picking them up after she went home and relaxed a little.  I went home and showered and got ready to head to Vegas for the singles dance down there.  Ed, Brenda and Sarah were joining me on the ride.  We met up with a group of other St. Georgians for dinner.  We just went to a mall type place in Henderson.  I ate at The Last Great Stand or something like that.  I just got a grilled chicken sandwich.  Other people that ate there as well said the hamburgers were alright but not fantastic.  I am glad that I went with the chicken :)

We headed to the dance after dinner.  I totally thought that the dance was ages 31-45 but apparently it was 31+.  It was still fun though.  The St. George group kind of stuck together.  We did the escape room that they had set up.  I had never done one before...considering that I woke up at 5 that morning and it was an hour later for me, I wasn't much help but it was still fun.  It was so much fun to be back at a dance.  I haven't been to one since my Dixie State institute days.  I met a few more St Georgians at the dance...didn't meet too many Las Vegas folks but that is alright.  Ed drove the car back (and yes we left the dance a half hour early).  So grateful Ed came with because I couldn't have driven back.  We got home at 3am...only 6 hours past my usual bedtime and 2 hours before I normally wake up.   The kids were at Grandma's for a sleep over so I just went in, took out my contacts and was out in no time.

Saturday I planned on it being a pretty low key day.  My mom took the kids over to Home Depot for their extra craft.  I went to pick up Aspen to take her to rehearsal for the stake play.  Then I headed over to Darcee's.  She had a rough night on Friday with an incident with her neighbors and needed to talk.  After the talk, I headed to meet up with my mom at the new bike park across from Snow Canyon.  I watched the kids bike around that for a little bit.  Then I did a little grocery shopping and headed home for a nap....well I tried a nap, didn't work.  So I took care of the fruit and chicken that I had bought.  The kids had their final activity at the Sand Hollow Aquatic Center (marathon win).  They were at the pool for about 4.5 hours ad never complained.  We spent the evening watching some college football.  Eds tv wouldn't get the channel consistently so I told him he could watch it at my place.

All in all, it was a great weekend.  I don't really want to go back to work tomorrow and the 34 emails waiting for me.  Luckily my fall break is this up coming week.  Til next week :)

A little late - but Dad's 65th Brithday

I totally thought that I had posted something about this but I guess not.  On the 22nd, my dad turned 65!  I can't believe it.  On Sunday, we were able to get almost every member in our family together at my parents house.  That is the first time since Bear Lake (but we were still missing Darcee then too).  This time we were missing Jonah.  It was fun having everyone together.  My parents updated the growth chart.  Then my parents gave the kids a present - say what?  It's dad's birthday celebration but the kids get a present.  Yup my parents are just that cool.  They gave us The Saints book that the church just put out.  It is a really good story about Joseph Smith and the saints of the church.  I am slowly working my way through it.

Anyway we tried to do a selfie (I am not that good at big group ones - need to point the camera down more...but we got everyone's forehead haha

Last week of September already

Man has this month flown by.  Between being back at work and the kids' activities, makes for a busy and fun time of.

Monday evening, the kids finally got to go back up to Tuacahn and see Matilda again.  I volunteered an early shift so they came and sat with me in the VIP lounge before going to their seats.  It was a late night but the kids had fun.  And even better when they didn't complain the next day when they were tired...that was me lol.  My parents were also up there shuttle driving.  The kids rode up with Grandpa on the big shuttle and loved it.

The rest of the week was filled with the normal activities:  football, gymnastics and activity days.  I did go to parent teacher conferences for Aspen.  Every single one I talked to said they just loved her and she is doing great in class.  It is great to hear that she is doing well in school.

Friday night I just stayed at home and caught up on some TV shows.  It was nice to just have an evening to relax.  The kids played outside for most the evening.  Temperatures are still in the 90s but at least they are tolerable.

Saturday had Colten's last home game for football.  They were playing Virgin Valley, which is the team that beat them in the championship game last year.  Their dad was able to travel down and watch the game.  Colten played really well.  He had one play where he was the running back.  They were down on the goal line and he made a great run and almost had the touchdown til he got hit and fumbled it.  But he had a few tackles and overall played a great game.  The kids went with their dad and Colleen to Olive Garden for lunch and I went to the temple.
