We spent one weekend up on Monroe Mountain at my mom's cousin's cabin. It was a blast. We played plenty of hand 'n foot, kids played outside ALL day, four wheeling, paddle boating on a small lake, and no sleep. The kids had a lot of fun with a tree house there on the property and then they decided to build their own. I am not exactly sure how far they got in that endeavor. But it was really nice to be able to kick them out of the cabin to go play outside. Friday night was the only night we had electronics and that was the night we were getting everything set up. The kids did really good and I think they had a lot of fun. We weren't able to get all of the kids up this year but I am sure there will be more trips up in the future.
David and Jay were able to take the four wheelers out and do a difficult ride. Grandma and Grandpa helped give rides to the other little ones. I took Colt on a ride to a lake and back. He isn't that interested in the four wheelers but I am sure that will change as he gets older. Aspen went with Grandma on a ride to check out an old guard station. A relative of ours used to work at the station a long time ago.
Grandpa Higgins and Sheila came up on Saturday and hung out. They brought their paddle boat so the kids could go out on that at the lake. I didn't tell the kids that they were coming so they were really surprised when they pulled up. I hadn't seen Greg since he had his brain surgery but he was looking really good. I think they enjoyed getting away and getting up in the mountains and seeing the kids.
On the way up the mountain, we saw a herd of elk. I had only ever seen elk one at a time but this herd was like 100. It was so amazing to see that many elk and moving at the same time. There was also a set of horns amongst them.
After our trip to the mountain, we had a relaxing week. My kids went with their dad for the 24th. The few things that they have talked about is riding on the fire truck in the parade and going to see the Blue Angels fly in the air show in St. George. They also went on a hike to a waterfall, not sure which one, and they got all the way under the waterfall. They seemed to have a good time and I was able to get some school stuff done.
The next week I got some exciting news. I was hired on as an instructor with the Utah Virtual Academy. This is a blessing in that I didn't have a job this upcoming year so this is a huge burden that has been lifted off. I will also be able to work from home and be able to deal with Colt's crazy kindergarten schedule. I am super excited for this opportunity.
So this past week, the kids have been able to go swimming a lot. On Thursday, we went to the city pool. On Friday, we went to the Coral Canyon pool with my high school friend Lisa and on Saturday, they went to city pool again. I am not sure how much swimming will be done once school starts so this was the last hooray. While the kids were swimming on Saturday, David and I went to help Darcee and Jay move bricks from Justyn's house to my dad's. We ended up doing it in the heat (it had been cloud over all morning) We are grateful that we were able to help my dad out while he was getting some rest.
The summer is drawing to a close but we have plenty to keep busy until then. The kids have one more adventure with their dad and I am participating in training for my new job while keeping up with school. Hopefully I will be better at posting on the blog but won't make any promises :)
