Playing catch up yet again

In my defense, I had asked both Aspen and Colten to write on the blog - they failed to do so so now it is left up to me and my memories...lol oh and pictures and facebook so it may be a little more reliable.

I'll start where I left off.  Saturday night the kids and I headed to the Dixie State football game.   My friend Cole came along as well.  I haven't been to one since I went to school there.  The school recently built a new visitor's side and when I was looking at where our tickets would be, I thought it would be that area.  So that is where we sat - in the nice hot sun.  We weren't the only Dixie fans on that side so that was good.  The kids enjoyed the game, especially when they learned that they could pretty much go explore.  Colten kept tabs on the game and Dixie State won :)  It was a fun night!  I finished off the night by going and volunteering up at Tuacahn.

Sunday brought about our "fall" schedule.  All of us went to the family ward, then I headed off to the singles ward and then we headed over to grandparents to watch some Bronco football.  Definitely love watching the games recorded so we can just zip right through them and just watch the football.  I think we finished the game in half the time.  Mark, Lynda and Grandpa joined us for dinner that night as well.  Denver has a new quarterback this year so we were hoping for better games than last year.  Denver delivered beating Seattle 27-24 and a game winning driving by the offense.

Monday night the kids and I joined up with a couple of families in the ward for family home evening.  My ministering sister and I were trying to get our sisters together to get to know the families better...only one showed up but we kind of knew that.  There were a few other families there so it was fun to get to know them.

Tuesday night I headed up to Cedar City with a few friends to attend the John Michael Montgomery concert.  I had originally invited my mom and Hollee to go but then Hollee said she couldn't and so I withdrew my invitation to my mom and went with friends.  One day I think she will forgive me lol.  Instead she helped out with my kids.  I just needed someone to get Colten from football practice home and she was awesome and did that for me :)  Love her so much for the example she sets for me on the definition of mom.  I went up to the concert with Brenda, Allison and Greg.  It was again fun to get to know them a little better and then sing it up at the concert.  John Michael was good but his voice has aged a little.  He played all his hits which is always a win in my book :)

Thursday night Aspen and I headed over to the Dixie Round Up Rodeo.  We have been doing lots of football (which isn't Aspen's favorite) and I knew she loved the rodeo last so we had a mommy daughter date.  Aspen loved it.  She likes watching the horses and always asks for one.  I tell her she will have to get one when she is older lol.  It ended up being a late night at the rodeo and while walking back to the car I realized that Aspen had two tests the following day at school.  Whoops....mom fail.  She ended up doing well on both of them.  Phew haha

Friday night I headed back to the rodeo with Bart, a guy I met at the luau.  It was fun to be there again.  They had some new participants but the same events.  I really like how well the rodeo acknowledges the American flag and those that fight to protect our freedom and our community.  I am amazed at how these athletes train the horses to do these incredible things.  And then I am curious as to why anyone would want to do this kind of stuff...especially ride a bull lol

Saturday brought another game for Colten, this time they played Pine View.  Colten is coming along well ion the defensive side of the ball.  He had at least one tackle, he says it was a sack but I missed it going to the bathroom lol.  The team did awesome and shut out another team...20-0 and earned another Texas donut.  That is 3 on the season....gotta love the sugar highs this team is getting.  After the game, I took the kids to Pizza Pie Cafe for lunch.  We all enjoyed some pizza and a little college football.  We headed over to Great Grandpa Chris' house afterwards so I could clean and the kids keep Grandpa company.  The kids and Grandpa passed most of the time watching the BYU game.  It kept Colten and Grandpa entertained.  Aspen read some of Grandpa's Calvin and Hobbes books.  Later that night, the kids and I headed over to the Dixie State Game.  This time we sat on the home side and got to enjoy all the fun things they do for the crowd.  The kids each came away with a football, Colten got a T-shirt, and they both got an otter pop.  Dixie State won again and are looking good this year.

Sunday was a typical day...family ward church for the family, singles ward for me and then parents to watch the Bronco game against the Raiders.  This was another heart attack game and won with a field goal in the last 10 seconds of the game.

This past week was a typical schedule.  Aspen did do an art class with Carrol and she is really enjoying those.  Colten keeps life busy with 3 football practices a week but it is worth it to hear him talk about how much he loves it.

Friday I took the kids over to the Swiss Days activities.  We have done the 5K for the past 3 years and have never made it over to the other festivities.  I didn't realize how far away the children's activities were from the main activities so we ended up walking at least a half a mile to get to those activities.  But the kids had fun, especially when Parker's kids showed up.  We hung out for a little bit longer before heading back on the shuttle to our car.  I spent the evening laying on the couch relaxing getting ready for the 5K in the morning.

Saturday morning, Aspen and I woke up early to head over to Santa Clara for what is turning into our annual 5K.  Colten didn't want to risk getting an injury for his game.  Aspen did awesome. I thought that I might do better than her because I have been exercising for the last year but nope....she kept me moving.  The last mile she started to slow down a little and I pushed her but when she saw the finish line she took off.  I definitely finished better than I thought I would so all in all it was a good run. I had told Aspen I would take her to breakfast at Bishop's.  I invited my parents who also invited Hollee.  It was my dads birthday so we got him sung too and a huge cinnamon roll.  It was a good morning.

We headed home and grabbed Colten for his football game.  This week they played Canyon View.  Colten did really well.  He made a special team play where he ran from one side of the field over to the other side and tackled the runner and saved the touchdown.  Canyon View ended up scoring a couple of plays later and ended the shut out streak.  Colt also got the one point conversion point at the end of the game.  He has never played running back so I wasn't ready for it with the camera.  But Snow Canyon did win to remain undefeated.

After the game, we headed over to PetSmart.  About a month ago, I called to see if it would be alright if we got a hamster and they said it would be alright.  Ever since, the kids have been saving up their money to get enough and finally did it.  So we are now the proud owners of Charlie, the dwarf hamster lol   For now, it will be just one but I think the plan is to work on saving more money to get a second one.

I went on a date with Ed on Saturday night.  We went to Fiesta Fun and did a little mini golfing, bowling and go karting.  Because it has been awhile since I have bowling, I owe Ed some ice cream.  We had Chick-fil-A for dinner before heading out to our Tuacahn volunteering assignments.  It was a long day for me but filled with lots of fun!

Finally Sunday has arrived and since we are doing a dinner birthday party for my dad, I did not go to the singles ward.  We watched half of the Broncos game (mom thought she had recorded it but it didn't go) and it was the wrong half.  Actually, the Broncos only showed up the first quarter.  So now they are 2-1 and hopefully they learn how to play again.  Glad I had some time to get an update in before September closes out this year.  Hopefully, I will get one more next week.

Aspen and Colten's attempt at blogging hahaha

This is me the bomb.com COLTEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The first thing I am going to talk about is my football game on Saturday. It was A W S O M E, AWSOME. I did so great ( that' what my mom told me). It was my first tackle football game ever. I did really well the days before that I was doing well in school and I was just happy. Now I will turn the time over to Aspen :).

Hello I am Aspen, and I will be telling you about my week. First, I started Intermediate school and I'm so excited about it. I am getting to all of my classes ( it is hard when you have to remember six classes), I am making new friends, and some of best friends go to school with me!  I'm in gymnastics and I learn a lot at Bare Foot.  I will be starting art class on Thursday and I am really happy about that.  I am also going to have a sleepover at Audra's this weekend!! I haven't seen her since school started and we love each other very much.  We have been best friends since the second grade and we have been in touch with each other.

This is mom now...Yes of course Colten is going to talk about his football game.  He has been waiting a long time for it.  He woke up at 6am and had to sit around and wait.  His game was up in Cedar so it was perfect weather.  He really did a great job.  He got chosen as a team captain for this game because he has done well in practice and worked hard.  He made sure he blocked every guy he was going up against.  He played his heart out every play he was out for.  The team did well and beat Cedar 34-0 and earned a Texas donut.
He finished it up the next morning after his practice lol

Colten is also enjoying school.  He loves being in Ms. Fuchs class and learning about the growth mindset.  Football definitely keeps this boy busy but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Aspen is loving life.  I found her an art teacher that has been absolutely great.  She just loves helping her students get in touch with their inner artist and just create art.  Aspen has gone to two classes and has come out with 4 incredible art pieces.

And for mom and her social life - she is loving it :)  This past Labor Day was absolutely the best.  The kids and I went over to a friend, Isaac, house to join a bunch of other singles - well my kids went over to play with his girls.  But I had fun conversing with all the new friends.  We played a Battle of the Sexes game where I totally helped out the girls by answering all the sports questions - except the one about a specific player.  Isaac and Cole told me I couldn't answer any of the sports questions because they knew I would get it right lol.  It was a much needed night.  I am really loving getting to know other single people and having a life outside of being a mom.
